Is kinesiology a career?
Or just a stepping stone to another health care profession?
Kinesiologists can do more than deliver hot packs and cold packs.
We're not physiotherapy or occupational therapy assistants.
We're not receptionists or clinic cleaners.
But - what ARE we exactly?
Did you know? We have complete autonomy in a clinic setting. We do not have to be supervised by another health care professional. We can have other practitioners working for us too!
We can work for an employer full or part time online or in person - or both. We can own a business or run a professional practice.
We can buy a fitness or clinical franchise. We can build our own health and safety company. And then sell it.
We can set up a new employee wellness program. Or reorganize an entire health and safety department.
The super cool part? You can do all of this immediately after graduating with a kinesiology degree and passing your professional exam!
As a kinesiologist, you are uniquely positioned for a wide variety of healthcare roles. You can work in ergonomics, health promotion, occupational health and safety, chronic disease management and sport performance.
Once you find your favourite client niche and commit gaining very focused experience and continuing education, your reputation in the industry will only grow and grow!

Got Questions? We Thought You Might. We're Ready For You!
I’m already enrolled in a kin program. Why should I spend time outside of my lectures and labs to learn more about kinesiology? Won't I learn everything I need to know at school?
All my friends are going to physio school (or OT, AT, osteopathy or med school). Is kinesiology really a solid career choice?
I heard that, with a kin degree, you can only be a personal trainer. To become a health care professional I'll have to continue my university eduction. Is this true?
Doesn't practicing as a kin in a clinic just mean I'll be working working as a physiotherapy assistant?
I don’t think I can make 'real money' as a Kin. Don't most employers offer just over minimum wage?
Being a kin isn’t really very interesting. Can kins even make independent clinical decisions?
Now it's time for you to decide. You can...
Decide NOT to enroll in Kin School. Continue on to explore another profession like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic, naturopathic medicine or osteopathy.
It’s more time and more money, and when you graduate with yet another degree... will you be certain of your next steps then?
Or you can take even more in-depth continuing education courses about super specific areas of our scope of practice. This strategy can work, but it can get expensive - really quickly.
What if you realize that you aren't interested in an area of kinesiology like you thought you might be?
Without a solid introduction to professional practice you might end up buying lots of courses all over the map - for years!
Explore the incredibly diverse opportunities available for kinesiologists in Canada before you graduate.
With a weekly focus on new topics you can explore the possibilities of our unique profession!
Just like that you’re out in the world with a professional practice -
making a paycheck AND making a difference.
